Once Upon Stilettos

neither gol nor goal

December 30, 2006 · 3 Comments

What family will want a daughter in law who can kick footballs all day but can’t make round chapathis???”

Remember that line from Bend it Like Beckham? Well I can’t kick a football with any decent aim or worthwhile result so hopefully I’ll never be evaluated on that criteria. I can cook chapathis no problem, what I can’t do is bhel them into perfect circles even though I’ve been watching it my whole life. My grandma has this trick where she can spin the dough as she bhels it, this is my new goal! My parents just raised their eyebrows at the very intersting shapes that they were finding on their plates last night, the closest I got to round was somewhere between oval and oblong.

Futher, the Leafs did miserably last night with Sundin taking a penalty as often as he blinked and Aubin practically asleep at the goal. Hopefully tomorrow the Saints will do better. Yes I have every intention of keeping track of the game even though its Eid.

Birthdays and Orange Juice

December 28, 2006 · 3 Comments

A few months ago there was an intern at Citibank who sent out an email to her friends with her rigid, anal, ridiculous, over the top birthday plans at the Ritz which detailed what time each person was to arrive, what they should wear, what time food was being served and to whom along with notice that she would be (and this was my favorite line) “accepting small presents between 9-9.45pm in Salon B”.

I went to a much more low key, and I would argue far more entertaining, birthday fete last night. Since Jaymee decided to become horribly sick on his own birthday and we, being the considerate people we are, didn’t go out and celebrate it without him it was decided that his birthday be jointly celebrated with Androo’s (whose mom is the nicest person ever and not only set up a whole birthday table for us to come back to but also wrapped the present I had shipped to their house, everyone needs a mom like his). Apparently Androo had long been harboring a dream of making freshly squeezed orange juice… This is why, to Jules’s great dismay, we came home with a juicer, oranges and proceeded to make a mess. It was good orange juice though!

Yesterday’s lesson of the day: Do not wear open slingback stilettos, regardless of how cute they are and how they just MAKE the outfit if it is snowy and icy outside. If you get out of the car and, instead of standing still, find that are you are standing up but sliding down the driveway there is a problem. Fortunately, I have Jaymee and Subes to walk/carry me in these situations. I’m not sharing them though so you should all wear weather appropriate shoes.

Turkeys and Breakups

December 26, 2006 · 5 Comments

I made my first turkey on Sunday and it was awesome! I made a whole turkey dinner…stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, veggies…it was a masterpiece of a turkey though. Martha Stewart would have been proud of me I think. The entire twenty pound turkey was moist and flavorful and fabulous! The table was set with linens, candles, china. There were a couple snags of course, I was late putting the turkey in so it was late coming out and so we ate a bit later but it was worth it. Also, I counted and set the table for six. That’s because I invited six people over….I’m brilliant and didn’t include myself! Good times though! I’m thinking it should be a tradition.

Remember this one episode where Carrie is dumping a guy who, on paper, has lots going for him? Her reason was there’s no ‘zsa zsa zsa?’ Ok I have no idea how to spell that but nonetheless…there wasn’t any.

Quarter Life Crisis

December 23, 2006 · 3 Comments

A couple years ago I got this in an email forward, it stuck with me because I can see alot of myself in it…whoever wrote this has managed to almost entirely summarized how I feel and where my life is in a nutshell. Its nice to know someone else can realte and has been here too…some of it applies more than the rest…

It is when you stop going along with the crowd and start realizing that there are a lot of things about yourself that you didn’t know and may or may not like. You start feeling insecure and wonder where you will be in a year or two, but then get scared because you barely know where you are now.
You start realizing that people are selfish and that, maybe, those friends that you thought you were so close to aren’t exactly the greatest people you have ever met and the people you have lost touch with are some of the most important ones. What you do not realize is that they are realizing that too and are not really cold or catty or mean or insincere, but that they are as confused as you.
You look at your job. It is not even close to what you thought you would be doing or maybe you are looking for one and realizing that you are going to have to start at the bottom and are scared.
You miss the comforts of college, of groups, of socializing with the same people on a constant basis. But then you realize that maybe they weren’t so great after all.
You are beginning to understand yourself and what you want and do not want. Your opinions have gotten stronger. You see what others are doing and find yourself judging a bit more than usual because suddenly you realize that you have certain boundaries in your life and add things to your list of what is acceptable and what is not. You are insecure and then secure. You laugh and cry with the greatest force of your life. You feel alone and scared and confused. Suddenly change is the enemy and you try and cling on to the past with dear life but soon realize that the past is drifting further and further away and there is nothing to do but stay where you are or move forward.
You get your heart broken and wonder how someone you loved could do such damage to you or you lay in bed and wonder why you can’t meet anyone decent enough to get to know better.
You love someone but maybe love someone else too and cannot figure out why you are doing this because you are not a bad person.
One night stands and random hook ups start to look cheap and getting wasted and acting like an idiot starts to look pathetic. You go through the same emotions and questions over and over and talk with your friends about the same topics because you cannot seem to make a decision.
You worry about loans and money and the future and making a life for yourself and while wining the race would be great, right now you’d just like to be a contender!
What you may not realize is that everyone reading this relates to it. We are in our best of times and our worst of times, trying as hard as we can to figure this whole thing out.

Mission: Accomplished

December 21, 2006 · 4 Comments

Started: Wednesday December 20th.
11.30 am: 45 minutes on Amazon.ca, ordered, bought and shipped 2 presents.
6.00pm-8.35pm: Michelle and I shopped like women possessed, spent a ridiculous amount of money in too short a time frame. I was super lucky though, everything I wanted was fairly easy to find, the mall wasn’t overly packed (although I did accidentally smack a few people with my many bags).
-dinner break-
9.45pm: Shoppers for bags, tissue, chocolate…etc.
10.30pm: Back online for last two presents.
Finished: 10.45pm December 20th.

Who Dat?

December 18, 2006 · 2 Comments

Oh when the saints go marching in
When the saints go marching in
Oh lord I want to be in that number
When the saints go marching in

The Saints are headed to the PLAYOFFS! Top of NFC South! WOOOOOHOOOOO!
They’ve seen some rough times throughout their history…esp in the last year when NOLA almost lost them, they were homeless for a year…but things are looking up! They’ve got some great players like Brees and Bush, they’ve pulled up to 9-5 and its only going to get better! While a Superbowl victory would be unbelievably fantastic and oh-so-Hollywood but they don’t really have championship skills at the moment.

The game against the Redskins wasn’t so pretty with Horn and Soutmire out, Taylor losing his grip and Brees shorting it…but that’s ok, Peyton’s gonna pick them up!

December 14, 2006 · 6 Comments

The Boy was out for Chinese with friends before he picked me up from the airport Sunday night and he brought me a fortune cookie.

The fortune?

“You will receive a gift of fine jewelry in the near future.”
