What’s In This Box?

May 21, 2008 · 7 Comments

Thanks so much for all the well wishes on my new place *muah*! I’m moved in, the manual labor was done on Saturday by a couple of my friends, my brother and my boyfriend. Wonderful people. I stood around and pointed. Because I’m useful like that.

It feels odd to have that much space all to myself. I don’t have furniture yet, just my bedroom stuff. So far my bedroom is set up and the kitchen is unpacked and set up too. It doesn’t feel like mine yet though, I feel like I am in someone else’s house and they are going to come home and wonder why I’m there. I haven’t unpacked fully yet, I have bags and boxes everywhere. I am going to turn one bedroom into a giant closet, I can’t wait!

I don’t think the house likes me very much though (yes because it has emotions like people do….) because yesterday I smacked my head on a low hanging light fixture and this morning I fell down the stairs, landed on my tailbone and possibly reinjured my injured back….

Think of the house like one big, giant dog. It’s a little nervous around you now, but then it’ll become your best friend…

Owch, I hope you’re feeling ok! You and the house just have to get used to each other – like in Under The Tuscan Sun! You have to go around and introduce yourself and let the house get to know you a little bit. But congrats on the new house and the humongous closet!

I don’t think its the house. It’s probably your own body. It’s used to the rooms and corners of your old place so its feeling out of sort in the new one. Give it time, you’ll be skipping steps backwards in no time at all =)

Btw, Congratulations on your own place!

I totally understand the feeling that it’s not your place yet. I’m finally starting to get there in my new place. And oh, the garbage and boxes.

I recommend you not get drunk and stumble home in the dark until you get better acclimated.

[...] it was a bittersweet trip home. I got to see my good friends, and see bits of their new lives – Ruby and her new house, bridal showers for two close friends, baby showers, meeting someone’s new finacee. It was [...]
