G

January 29, 2009 · 13 Comments

It’s follow the leader time!  I had moseyed over to Charlotte Harris awhile ago and she was playing this fun little game of Things I Love Beginning With The Letter ____.

If you want to participate, leave a comment on this post and I will assign you a letter. You then write about 10 things you love that begin with your assigned letter and post them on your blog. When people comment on your posted list, you give them a letter and the chain continues on and on band on and on and on and on….

So this is brought to you by the letter G!

When I think of the letter G I think of giraffes, the word gargantuan and Grover. Which are all random start with G but I don’t really and truly love them. Except for maybe Grover. Maybe.

The ten + one things I do love are:

1.     Google! Oh Google how I do adore thee with your ability to find information, maps, give me the weather updates, horoscope…anything I could ever hope to find on these here interwebs. Google I *heart* you!

2.    Garlic bread! Seriously, I love garlic bread because of course it’s bread smothered in garlic butter. Mmmm.

3.    Girl talk! What’s more fun than bonding with your friends over coffee or fabulous dessert and catching up on the most important parts of each other’s lives.

4.    Grapes! They’re just so yummy! And they turn into yummy beverages!

5.    Glass! I love glass…vases, candle holders, plates, stained glass windows…any form but shards.

6.    Gems! Cuz I’m a Ruby…get it?

7.    Gibran, Khalil. Such a gifted poet.

8.    Godfather trilogy! Because Mario Puzo is an amazing writer. I prefer the books to the movies.

9.    Garfield! A cat that eats lasagna and has bear named Pookie. What’s not to love?

10.  Grease! A classic! Grease is the word…grease is the word, is the word that you heard…it’s got groove it’s got meaning…grease is the time, is the place is the motion…grease is the way we are feeling…

11.   Green Eggs and Ham! Because no G list would be complete without.

So, you drive a Toyota?

January 28, 2009 · 10 Comments

The sky is blue, cute little animals are prancing around and angels can be heard singing on high…all this is taking place only in my mother’s world. Because she’s planning a wedding. Who’s getting married? That depends on who you ask…as in, if you ask her, I am. If you ask anyone else…then the answer would be: nobody.

The introductions went well and I have realized that if I ever want to be fed at my parents house I have two options: go home when my brother, the prodigal son, goes home or bring boyfriend with me because when either one of those things happen there’s a feast. If it’s me or my younger brother who are there? We eat cereal regardless of the time of day. I’ll let you figure out on your own who the favorite child is.

My dad, staunch believer in the wonder that is Toyota was greatly saddened that Boyfriend drives *gasp*a Pontiac…oh the horror! The horror! And my mother, in her conservative ridiculous Indian way is just over the moon that someone – anyone – wants her “spinster daughter who is just too independent and just not thin enough”.  Mind you, she considers Kate Winslet to be “much too heavy” and I consider her gorgeous. And yes the quotation marks are there because I’m quoting her. Not bitter at all! Really!

Anytime an awkward question came up at dinner I’d half answer it and then ask my brother what he thought about a recent movie or current event, I’m not sure he’s ever had to have so many opinions in one evening. To be fair, my parents hadn’t even known that Boyfriend existed till two days before they met him…and all’s well that ends well.

My parents are an odd mix of traditional Indian and Westernized…and there’s no telling which way the wind blows with them, it’s always a surprise. My brothers and I have always known when we brought home a significant other our parents would automatically assume there was a wedding the offing. As a result, my parents have never met anyone their children have dated. Ever.

Until now.

I mentioned to my younger brother that I was going to introduce Boyfriend to our parents and asked that he come for dinner as well. My brother’s response? “Are you going to marry him? You should hurry up, you’re old now.”

Thanks bro. I’ll make sure to tell you’re old when you get to be my age. In two years.

Any Suggestions?

January 12, 2009 · 10 Comments

My boyfriend absolutely LOVES basketball, it’s his sport and he’s as passionate about basketball as I am about shoes. And no, we don’t understand each other’s all consuming passions but as they don’t conflict everything just moves along swimmingly. But let’s just take a second and all think of our favorite shoes..…shoes are WAY cooler than basketball!

His birthday is in a couple weeks and I was thinking of taking him to see a basketball game, out for a steak dinner and perhaps getting him something small like a sweater. So I made the dinner reservations and I asked all my basketball watching friends for suggestions as to what game to take him to and started looking into tickets…and honestly just getting really excited about the dinner reservations because this restaurant is FAMOUS for their lava cake. Cake=priority.

A couple days ago one of my boyfriend’s friends won a trip to Dallas to see the Toronto Raptors play  the Dallas *insert team name here* at the end of February and invited my boyfriend along. It covers air fare, hotel, car rental…the whole nine yards. This is great! A free trip! Woohoo! And now I don’t even have to suffer through basketball because he’s going to see a game in Dallas! Woooo Dallas!

But what do I get him now? Any ideas? Anyone?

Hi, my name is Ruby and I am now just a hair shy of three years from being thirty. That means I need to really get cracking on that list!
(So far I the only progress I have made has been getting slightly better at gift wrapping presents.)

I’m not so sure all of those things will be accomplished, the items requiring large amounts of cash will likely be delayed but I’m going to work hard on the rest.

I had a wonderful birthday courtesy of my friends, family and boyfriend. My friends and I enjoyed a casual laid back dinner the night before, it was just nice to get everyone together and catch up after the holidays. While some of my friends are part of the same group, most of them are from different areas of my life. It’s great that they can all maybe become friends with each other too.

My boyfriend made sure my birthday was wonderful, he woke up super early and went out to Tim Horton’s to bring me coffee before I was even awake.  *swoon* He also surprised me with the Atlas necklace…a few months ago, we went to Tiffany’s to get something for his mom for Mother’s Day and I mentioned that I really liked the Atlas necklace.  And he remembered. Ladies and gents, I think I’ll keep him. We went out to dinner at a really nice restaurant where we both had the best  meals in a million years. It was a lovely day.

I’m so grateful to have so many wonderful people in my life, including all my bloggy friends. *hug*
